What is the CELPIP?

The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) is a general English language proficiency test.

The CELPIP Test allows test takers to demonstrate their ability to function in English. The test, accurately, and precisely assesses a test taker’s English abilities in a variety of everyday situations, such as communicating with co-workers and superiors in the workplace, interacting with friends, understanding newscasts, and interpreting and responding to written materials.

Who Accepts CELPIP

The CELPIP Tests prove English language proficiency for immigration purposes and professional designation.

The CELPIP Tests are accepted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for a variety of permanent residency and immigration streams, as well as for professional certification for several organizations. Click below for a complete list of organizations that accept CELPIP scores.

Requirements For Being a Test Centre

All prospective CELPIP Test Centres must demonstrate that they meet Paragon Testing Enterprises’ standards and guidelines to be considered to deliver the CELPIP Test.

The facility must have the following:

• An isolated testing room that is comfortable and quiet
• Computer workstations that meet our technical requirements
• A check-in area, secure storage area, and washrooms near the testing room
• Accessibility for people with disabilities
• Safety measures including emergency exit plans and fire extinguishers
• Commitment to scheduling test sittings months in advance on CELPIP testing days
• Ability to run a demo test in the testing room before every test weekend
• Capacity to provide trained, certified staff for all test sittings
